How to convert from other software

After purchasing our community in the cloud package, you may already have a system you are already using for your current community.

Below you will find the information required to get you started with converting all your data over to the IPS platform.

If you are unsure about any of the following guide, please contact our support team. We're here to help you make a smooth transition over to Community in the Cloud here at IPS.

Applies to cloud customers only

This guide is for IPS Community in the cloud customers only. If you are a self hosted customer, this document will not apply. Before you begin

Prior to contacting support, you need to do the following with regards your hosting, and current software configuration. These are important steps to ensure you are in a position to convert, and that we have what is needed to successfully get you on your way to using your IPS Cloud Platform.

  1. The first thing you need to do, is ensure that your current platform is supported by the conversion application. You can see this information, along with what will be converted, on the following page.
     
  2. Once you have ensured your platform can be converted, you need to switch this offline, so as to ensure that no data is added from this point.

Data required for conversion

Prior to contacting support, You need to ensure you have the data required for conversion for us to place on our servers in preparation for the conversion.

  1. Prepare a mysqldump (backup) of your existing softwares database.
     
  2. Backup any images or attachment folders which are not stored in the database on your existing platform. This is usually things such as attachments, emoticons, user profile images etc.
     
  3. Zip these ready for transfer to ourselves to prepare for you conversion

What happens next?

The next step is to inform us that you wish to convert the platform.

  1. Submit a support ticket in our hosting department from your Client Area, stating you are converting from another platform, that you have followed the guide here, and where to locate the items prepared above
     
  2. We will import your database here at the IPS hosting platform, and give it a database prefix. You will be given all the necessary details required for the conversion.
     
  3. You can now begin the conversion of your software. You will find the converter application within your ACP under the converters menu item. Follow the converter guides in the following location to convert your platform
     
  4. Once the conversion is completed, you must reply to the conversion ticket in hosting and let us know you are finished, at this time we will ensure we remove the old database tables from your imported data, and the files on the /oldsite, this will ensure you are not using valuable disk space on your community and keep things clean.
